Senator Applications Due Friday!

Hello everyone!

We hope you seriously consider becoming a part of Rochester College's Student Government as a Senator. With your help, we can make some great changes both on campus and in the surrounding community!

Student Government has a Constitution that we follow in order to properly lead the student body. Here is a snippet about the Senators so you can get an idea of what is required for one:

Student Government Constitution
Article IV, Section 9

Responsibilities and Duties of a Student Senator

  1. To attend all senate meetings with no more than two unexcused absences allowed per year. Failure to attend will result in impeachment proceedings.
  2. To represent his/her constituency by meeting with them twice a semester.
  3. To attend all committee or council meetings to which he or she has been appointed.
  4. To report back to the Student Senate on committee/council progress.
  5. To initiate any needed legislation.
  6. To communicate regularly with his/her constituency.
  7. Senators must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me. I truly hope you consider becoming a Senator, and look forward to working with you if you do so for the rest of the semester!

Thank you!

Elliott Kern

New Year, New Ideas!

Hello all!

One year gone, and another one has already begun at Rochester College! New changes and improvements are happening and will continue to happen in the area of Rochester College's Student Government. This upcoming semester, we are looking to make a difference bigger and better than ever. One of the areas we believe we can do that is through our communication to you. This is one of the main reasons this blog is being created: to reach out to the student body! These posts will be notifying you of upcoming events, both on-campus activities as well as community service projects in the area. But it will also be an opportunity to have your questions answered. We want to know as a student body what you're liking, disliking, or issues on campus. RC Student Government is here to serve that need, and make this campus better the best we can. So any questions you may have, we will do our best to answer! Any changes you would like to see, mention them to us, and we will do our best to make them happen if they benefit the school as a whole!

Now, for those who don't know the whole cabinet, I'll mention them. My name is Elliott Kern. I am the President of Student Government. But I couldn't do anything without my executive cabinet: Rachel Grant (VP of Public Relations), Joe Peterson (VP of Finance and Fundraising), Felecia Gibbs (VP of Activities), Kirsten Rudd (VP of Community Life), Claire Poppleton (Senate Chairperson) and Katy Bodine (Secretary). This group of people make it their point to try and make Rochester College a better place and better community every day.

HOWEVER, we couldn't do it on our own. Senators contribute greatly as well. And we can't have enough of them! So if you are interested in being a part of a group who can make a difference, please pick up an application once school starts in Student Development!

We are always looking for ways to improve and get information to you quicker. This is one of those ways, but not the last. So keep looking for blogs and different ways for the RC Student Government to be reaching out to you! There will be updates and blogs made not only by myself, but the executives as well. Together, we will make this semester and kickoff into 2011 the best one yet!

See you all on campus!
